Federal regulators rejected Orexigen Therapeutics’ diet pill, Contrave, saying the La Jolla drugmaker must conduct a new clinical trial testing the treatment’s effect on the heart which could take years to complete, the company said Tuesday.The unexpected decision by the Food and Drug Administration was a major blow to Orexigen executives, who now must regroup and decide whether they can raise the money to fund the additional research.
